Our XPS insulation boards are the budget way to insulate under electric underfloor heating. Each board is 600 x 620mm (0.37m²), in 6mm, 10mm, 20mm or 30mm, and fixes down with flexible tile adhesive. Use them under tiles and stone, or under laminate, wood and LVT with our foil heating mats.
XPS Insulation Board
The Living Heat XPS Insulation Board delivers a high-performance thermal barrier for underfloor heating systems.
Under Tiles or in conjunction with embedded UFH systems, fix the boards quickly and securely using the same flexible tile adhesive you use for tiling.
Available in 6mm, 10mm, 20mm, and 30mm thicknesses, the boards suit tiled floors, stone, wood, or select LVT ‘click’ flooring (5mm thick or above & underlayment attached).
Each board measures 620 × 600 mm, covering 0.37 m² uncut, and is lightweight for easy handling.

XPS or tile backer board?
Choose XPS boards when
You want to insulate on a budget, or you’re laying a foil mat under laminate, wood or LVT. XPS works with most of our systems.
Choose tile backer boards when
You’re tiling, especially on a timber floor. They’re cement coated on both faces, so they give a stable surface to tile onto. They can’t be used with foil mats.

How many XPS boards do I need?
Each board covers 0.37m². Divide your area in m² by 0.37, round up, and allow a little extra for cuts. For example, 4m² takes 11 boards.
Which thickness should I use?
The thicker the board, the better it insulates. 6mm keeps the build-up low and is the most popular on floors. On concrete, where more heat is lost, go thicker if you can.
How do I fix XPS boards down?
Bed them in a flexible tile adhesive, the same adhesive you use for tiling.
Can XPS boards go under LVT?
Yes, with our foil heating mat, under select LVT click flooring that’s 5mm thick or more with the underlay attached.
Are XPS boards waterproof?
Yes, the boards are waterproof.
